Best terminal location (proposed)

The downtown riverfront district near the former Illinois Central station. Rockford's downtown riverfront has been steadily redeveloping around the former Illinois Central depot site, with the Rock River as a civic anchor. The corridor toward Chicago follows the established rail and I-90 alignment, and the aerospace and healthcare employers give the terminal a commuter base.
