A $4.53 billion naval spent-fuel facility rising at Idaho National Laboratory, a $700M expansion of Boise Airport, a new women's prison and three Interstate projects headline Idaho's public pipeline.
*How to read the total: the sum of the published figures in the list below. Bases differ by project — most are total cost estimates, some are federal grants, program totals, or construction contracts as awarded. Each project's expanded view labels its own basis. We add them up with the labels showing rather than pretend they're all the same kind of number.
Hover a pin for the project snapshot. Pin numbers match the project list below. Locations are approximate (nearest city or corridor midpoint) on a schematic state outline.

12 major public projects are listed. The listed figures sum to $6,598,993,424 (≈$6.6B) — and 69% of that total is a single federal record, the $4,532,898,000 Spent Fuel Handling Recapitalization Project at Idaho National Laboratory. Bases differ and are labelled on every record: two contract figures, one contract ceiling, and published totals or estimates for the rest. This is a majors list, not a census — Idaho's Division of Public Works alone reported about $1.9B of active state public-works projects in February 2025, almost all below this page's $10M published-figure threshold.
Where published figures conflict, one figure is tallied and the rest are disclosed on the record, never blended: SH-16 Phase 2 is tallied at ITD's $170M Board-approved estimate (a later bond list says $129M; an all-in accounting says ≈$364M); the I-90 widening is tallied at the $200M low end of ITD's published $200–210M range; the I-90/SH-41 interchange is tallied at ITD's $78M construction figure (the Board's programme list said $82.5M); Boise Airport is tallied at its $700M construction contract ceiling, with the ≈$42.5M design agreement disclosed but not added. The SFHP's tallied figure is its fourth approved baseline (May 2025) — its 2018 baseline of $1.69B and the GAO-audited 2022 baseline of $3.0B are printed in its cost basis.
News- and trade-flagged sources: several rows rest on news, trade-press or hearing-summary reporting of official figures, flagged on their records — Boise Airport (Construction Dive), the women's prison (InvestigateWest), Boise State's Science Research Building (Idaho Education News), the University of Idaho housing approval (KOZE), the ISU Life Sciences Complex (Citizen Portal hearing summaries, corroborated by the State Board of Education's own project document) and the I-84 Caldwell widening (Building Excellence). The softest records on the page are the women's prison (a $183M estimate from investigative reporting citing IDOC, with two different published bed counts), the Mountain Home AFB water plant (an FPDS contract record read through an aggregator) and the ISU Life Sciences Complex (hearing-summary sourcing).
Deliberately excluded: private and nonprofit builds are excluded however large — Micron's Boise semiconductor fab (private), St. Luke's and Saint Alphonsus (nonprofit health systems), Simplot, and Idaho Power (private utility). Terminated: the Versatile Test Reactor at INL — DOE terminated the project, so it is named here and never listed as a live or suspended project. Zeroed federal line items: DOE's Idaho Spent Nuclear Fuel Staging Facility (22-D-403, $205M published Total Project Cost) and Calcine Construction (23-D-402) were zeroed in the FY2025 and FY2026 budget requests and are not listed as active builds. Range-only: INL's LOTUS test bed published only a $30–50M construction subcontract range, so no point figure is tallied. Unfunded: the Boise Main Library campus project, and university requests such as the University of Idaho's proposed engineering building and Boise State's $10M science-building renovation ask. Completed in a prior year, however large: INL's Sample Preparation Laboratory, renamed the Structural Properties Laboratory ($166M congressional line item; construction completed and ribbon cut in September 2024), the I-86/I-15 system interchange in Pocatello ($112M, completed summer 2025), Boise State's Keiser Hall residence hall ($58.5M, opened fall 2025), the College of Western Idaho's Norco Health & Science Building (≈$30M, opened August 2025) and the Idaho State Veterans Home in Boise (opened 2023). No 2026 completion is listed: the nearest case, the I-90/SH-41 interchange, was still reported as building toward a fall 2026 finish at verification.
