Indiana
is building.

A $1.2 billion new state prison at Westville, a $945 million South Shore Line corridor in service as the Monon Corridor, a ≈$780 million rebuild of Indianapolis's convention campus around the Signia hotel, a $500 million reconstruction of the I-465/I-69 interchange, and interstate rebuilds on I-70, I-65 and the Borman Expressway headline Indiana's public pipeline.

*How to read the total: the sum of the published figures in the list below. Bases differ by project — most are total cost estimates, some are federal grants, program totals, or construction contracts as awarded. Each project's expanded view labels its own basis. We add them up with the labels showing rather than pretend they're all the same kind of number.

Coverage note — read this before quoting the tally

20 major public projects: 6 in Indianapolis, 3 at Purdue in West Lafayette plus 1 at Purdue in Indianapolis, 2 in Fort Wayne, 2 in Evansville, 3 in Gary and Lake County, and one each in Westville, Wayne County, Muncie, Burns Harbor and Jeffersonville. The listed figures sum to ≈$5.8B. Unlike some states in this series, Indiana's list is not majors-only: alongside the INDOT interstate programme it carries university buildings, two airport projects, two port expansions and a convention campus — but the three largest records are still a prison, a convention/hotel campus and a single interchange.

How programmes are counted: only the contracted or published piece is tallied, never the whole corridor. Revive I-70 is listed as Contract 1 only (≈$378M); FlexRoad is the published $212.5M project total; Burns Harbor is the port's own $77M programme figure (its $10M warehouse and $6M dock are components, not separate rows); Gary's cargo campus is Phase 1 only ($24M of an expected ≈$67M campus); and the I-69 Ohio River Crossing is split by discipline — the $933M Section 2 bridge figure stands on Kentucky's page as the programme figure, and only Section 3's own distinct $202M Indiana-approach contract is listed here, with the relationship disclosed on the record.

News-flagged sources: eight rows rest on news or trade-press reporting of official figures, flagged 'news-flagged' in the data — the Westville prison (Correctional News, IDOC figures), the Signia/Pan Am Plaza total (IBJ, Capital Improvement Board figures), Revive I-70 Contract 1 (CEG, INDOT figures), Fort Wayne's Project Gateway (Travelers Today, Airport Authority figures), I-65 Safety & Efficiency (ACP, INDOT figures), the Jeffersonville port expansion (Marine Log, Ports of Indiana figures) Gary's cargo campus (Cargo Facts, airport figures) and the West Lake (Monon) Corridor (Progressive Railroading, NICTD figures). Each record names the underlying official source. The Ivy Tech Fort Wayne record is the softest on the page: a published $66–67M range, not a single contract figure.

Deliberately excluded: projects completed in a prior year — I-69 Finish Line (opened August 2024), the I-65/I-70 North Split in Indianapolis (completed 2023), IndyGo's Purple Line (opened October 2024), the South Shore Double Track project (completed 2024) and the Louisville Ohio River bridges (Kentucky-led, completed 2016). Also excluded: IU Health's Indianapolis hospital campus — a private nonprofit build, out of scope by rule despite the IU name (Indiana University's own buildings are state-university builds and would be in scope); private builds of any size (Elanco's headquarters, data centres); and unfunded or design-only proposals, including the wider ≈$6.5B I-70 tolling reconstruction concept and a proposed downtown Indianapolis soccer stadium, for which no funded construction was verified.
