is building.

Two bi-state Ohio River bridges — the $3.6 billion Brent Spence corridor at Covington and the $933 million I-69 crossing at Henderson — a $1.56 billion new lock at Kentucky Dam, a new VA hospital in Louisville, and the last all-new miles of a four-lane Mountain Parkway headline Kentucky's public pipeline.

*How to read the total: the sum of the published figures in the list below. Bases differ by project — most are total cost estimates, some are federal grants, program totals, or construction contracts as awarded. Each project's expanded view labels its own basis. We add them up with the labels showing rather than pretend they're all the same kind of number.

Coverage note — read this before quoting the tally

15 major public projects: 4 in Louisville, 4 in Lexington, 2 Ohio River bridge corridors, and one each at CVG (in Kentucky), Grand Rivers, Eastern Kentucky, the Corbin area, Paducah and Fort Knox. The listed figures sum to ≈$11.7B. Two of the largest figures are BI-STATE totals, listed once and labeled as such on their records: the Brent Spence corridor's $3.6B is shared 50/50 by Kentucky and Ohio, and the I-69 bridge's $933M is the Section 2 bridge figure for a crossing owned equally by Kentucky and Indiana — neither figure has been halved or doubled in the tally, and the reader should not treat either as Kentucky-only spending.

News-flagged sources: eight rows rest on news or trade-press reporting of official figures, flagged 'news-flagged' in the data — Kentucky Lock (ENR reporting USACE), Mountain Parkway (CEG quoting KYTC's project manager), SDF Next (Courier Journal reporting the airport authority), Elevate CVG (ENR), UK's cancer and agriculture buildings, UofL's Health Sciences Building, both KYTC interstate widenings, and Riverport West (Waterways Journal reporting the U.S. DOT award). Each record names the underlying official source. The Brent Spence record keeps the $3.6B total published at federal environmental approval and discloses the 2026 reporting that construction alone is now priced at $4.05B (about $4.4B with design) — the increase is on the record, not silently substituted.

Deliberately excluded: private projects of any size (Ford's BlueOval SK battery plants, Toyota Georgetown, distilleries, private data centres) — out of scope by rule; the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant cleanup (DOE, about $17B to 2065) — a multi-decade deactivation and remediation programme of demolition and groundwater treatment, not a building or infrastructure build, so it is named here rather than listed; I-69 ORX Section 1 in Kentucky ($158M, substantially completed late 2025) and Section 3 in Indiana — parts of the ORX programme whose bridge is listed as ky-002, not separate rows; the UK Chandler Hospital expansion (about $3.5B in trustee materials) — a long-range plan without a published funded construction programme on the records retrieved, excluded under the unfunded-proposal rule; and the bundled FY2026 Kentucky military-construction package ($147M across Fort Knox, Fort Campbell, Blue Grass Army Depot and the Guard) — a bundle, not a single project.

Softest record: Fort Knox's Scott Middle School — a $117M FY2027 military-construction justification-book figure, in design, with construction programmed 2027–2030; it is labeled committed-funding and should be re-verified against the enacted FY27 appropriation. UofL's Health Sciences Building is next softest on schedule: no completion date was published in the sources retrieved, so it prints Not published.
