A $2 billion clean-water programme remaking Omaha's sewers, the first $1.22 billion of UNMC's Project Health hospital — a $2.75 billion ambition — a $950 million new terminal at Eppley Airfield and a $421 million streetcar headline Nebraska's public pipeline.
*How to read the total: the sum of the published figures in the list below. Bases differ by project — most are total cost estimates, some are federal grants, program totals, or construction contracts as awarded. Each project's expanded view labels its own basis. We add them up with the labels showing rather than pretend they're all the same kind of number.

17 major public projects: 7 in Omaha, 1 at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, 4 in Lincoln, 2 I-80 segments at Lincoln's west edge, 1 I-80 segment in Buffalo County, 1 I-80 segment in Dawson County, and 1 in Kearney. The listed figures sum to ≈$6.1B. No record on this page is a bi-state total: every project is physically in Nebraska. The Omaha metro's Iowa side — Council Bluffs, directly across the Missouri River — has its own interstate and city programme under Iowa owners; nothing Iowa-side is listed or counted here, and Iowa-side projects will be pointed to, not duplicated, when an Iowa page is built. Nebraska's inventory is honestly Omaha-heavy and majors-only: Omaha's sewer programme, its medical centre and its airport dominate the tally because those are the public builds with published figures above the $10M floor that could be verified; smaller city and county work below that standard is not listed.
How the big numbers are counted: Project Health is counted at the $1.22B the University of Nebraska regents have actually approved — site/foundations plus shell and core — NOT its headline total: a revised programme statement approved October 9, 2026 puts the full facility at $2.748B, and its final fit-out phase still needs separate approval, so the full ambition is disclosed on the record, not tallied. The same discipline runs the other way for programmes: Omaha's CSO Long Term Control Plan is listed once at its ≈$2.0B programme total with its dozens of contracts folded in (its completed Saddle Creek basin is not double-listed), while at Offutt only the discrete $389M final construction contract is tallied, not the $1.1B flood-recovery programme. Lincoln's Water 2.0 is counted only at its funded, under-construction $36M transmission main — the programme's $375M–$800M published range is not a funded figure. The two Lincoln-area I-80 segments are listed per NDOT's own segment pricing, not as a corridor programme.
News-flagged sources: seven rows rest on news or trade-press reporting of official figures, flagged 'news-flagged' in the data — the Omaha streetcar and Lincoln Water 2.0 (Nebraska Public Media), the Offutt contract (Construction Dive, from USACE/Turner), the I-80 Pleasant Dale segment (Associated Construction Publications, from NDOT/Hawkins), the I-80 Odessa–Kearney segment (North Platte Post, from the Governor's office/NDOT) Lincoln's lead-line programme (KFOR) and the Omaha Central Library (Grow Omaha). Each record names the underlying official source. The softest records on the page are the CSO programme total (a 2021 Long Term Control Plan estimate for work running to 2037) and the streetcar (a genuinely contested project whose published estimates run $389M–$478M depending on what is counted; the Authority's current $421M is tallied and the dispute is on the record).
Deliberately excluded: projects completed in a prior year, however large — the Lincoln South Beltway ($352M, opened December 2022), UNL's Kiewit Hall engineering centre ($115M, opened January 2024), UNL's Westbrook Music Building ($81M, opened May 2025), the US-30 Grand Island West four-lane project ($33.5M construction budget, completed November 2025), Omaha's RiverFront parks ($325M, completed 2023) and the Saddle Creek Retention Treatment Basin ($142.2M total project cost, completed before its 2024–25 engineering awards; a finished piece of the CSO programme listed at ne-002). Also excluded: NPPD's proposed Cooper Nuclear Station extended power uprate ($409M estimate), which NPPD's board voted NOT to proceed with — a verified termination, not a suspension — and unfunded or unapproved scope, including Project Health's fit-out phase, the balance of Lincoln Water 2.0, and the Lincoln East Beltway (study funding only). Excluded as private, however large: the Mutual of Omaha Tower ($600M), Creighton University's campus builds, Boys Town's hospital expansion and private data centres.
