Tennessee
is building.

Seventeen major public projects are tracked across Tennessee — sixteen underway or funded right now, and one completed in 2026 — a $10.35 billion federal uranium plant rising at Oak Ridge, a $9.2 billion toll-lane concession on I-24, two TVA gas plants, $3 billion of new airport at Nashville, and the first small modular reactor in America moving through its permits. Here is each one, with its price tag, its funding, and the law that made it possible.

*How to read the total: the sum of the published figures in the list below. Bases differ by project — most are total cost estimates, some are federal grants, program totals, or construction contracts as awarded. Each project's expanded view labels its own basis. We add them up with the labels showing rather than pretend they're all the same kind of number.

Coverage note — read this before quoting the tally

What this page is: a first pass (October 25, 2026) over Tennessee's largest federal, state and public local construction projects, built from the owners' own published figures. Every row links to its source; every figure was verified against that source on the date stamped above.

The $10M floor: this tally counts construction projects costing more than $10 million. Smaller jobs — however worthy — and routine resurfacing and maintenance are not counted. (Standing rule for every state pass; if volume ever makes the $10M floor unmanageable, it rises to $100M.)

This is a majors list, honestly labeled: below these 17 sit dozens of TDOT lettings in the $15–95M range and a long tail of smaller university, utility-district and Corps jobs. They are not here yet; the page does not pretend otherwise. Tennessee's two giants also bend the total: rows 1 and 2 alone are $19.5B of the ≈$34B tracked.

Read row 9 carefully: the Clinch River SMR is counted at its committed development funding ($750M), not its estimated build cost (reported up to ~$5.4B), because TVA's board has not approved building it. Row 6's ≈$2B is ORNL's own approximate project value, not a DOE baseline. Row 12's figure is a federal loan, not a total cost — each row says so in its own cost cell.

Flagged sources: rows 2, 4, 9, 15 and 17 currently rest on trade-press or newspaper reporting (ENR, the Knoxville News Sentinel, Construction Equipment Guide) of the owners' published figures, because no owner page states the full record yet. They are flagged here, not hidden, and will be re-based on owner sources as those publish.

Deliberately excluded: projects completed in a prior year (BNA's earlier Vision program, completed 2024; MEM's Concourse B modernization, opened 2022) and unfunded proposals with no appropriation or award on record (I-69 segments in Tennessee; TVA's pumped-storage proposals, still in study; the McGhee Tyson terminal expansion, a ~$200M FY2028 plan counted only in row 15's notes).
